COVID Vaccine and Fillers
Worried about COVID Vaccine and Fillers

Are your worried about COVID-19 Vaccination and fillers? We are greeted by the news that a few people who have dermal fillers have had adverse reactions to a COVID-19 vaccine. Patients are now worried about the COVID-19 vaccination and possible side effects it might have with fillers injected. Some patients are concerned about HA injections in their knees as well.
Thus far, only 3 cases have been reported in volunteers who had the Moderna Vaccination (Pfeizer vaccine has not reported issues with the dermal fillers side effects).
Two of those patients had prior dermal fillers in their cheeks within six months before vaccination. The other had received dermal filler in the lip two days after receiving the vaccine. ( We are not sure of the type of fillers Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, Versa, Bellafill, etc)
It has been noted that the swelling
in the three clinical trial volunteers resolved following treatment with steroids or antihistamines.
For safety purposes, all Fillers should be injected by a physician ONLY.
FDA has concluded in a briefing document that “it is possible the localized swelling in these cases is due to an inflammatory reaction from interaction between the immune response after vaccination and the dermal filler. This phenomenon has been reported after natural infection (e.g., after an influenza-like illness).”
We are not minimizing the potential side effects, this story should absolutely not stop people with fillers from receiving the vaccine. We spent some time looking at all the available information from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other available sources, and we can confidently say that patients should not be concerned about getting the vaccine after receiving fillers.
Patients should be aware of the side effects and contact their physicians immediately if swelling, irritation or any other side effects occurring with Moderna Vaccine.
Please Note that there are no reports of COVID Vaccine side effect using any of the Botulinum Toxin such as Botox , Dysport , Xeomin or Jeuveau .
At New Skin Laser Center, we have physicians who perform all of the medical procedures and are available for virtual consultations as well.
