Lipodissolve Injection

What Is Lipodissolve?
Lipodissolve involves Localized injections of phosphatidylcholine (PC) with deoxycholate (DC) to reduce superficial deposits of fat.  Many center tend to use vitamins or other ingredients to dissolve the fat which have very little effect if any.   With the combination of phosphatidylcholine with deoxycholic acid, you can have great results and reduction of localized fat.   Kybella is a product with deoxycholic acid which has gained FDA approval.  Lipodissolve is best to be used for small areas that is difficult to get rid of or stubborn fat.   Phosphatidylcholine is a soybean extract, and deoxycholate is a bile derivative (similar to our gallbladder producing bile to dissolve fat ingested in our meals). Phosphatidylcholine is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to break down blood fats that may increase risk for heart disease.

Beware of centers marketing lipodissolve that involves vitamins and extracts without phosphatidylcholine and deoxycholate.  Kybella was approved due to studies conducted to dissolve fat based on phosphatidylcholine and deoxcycholic acid.

During the lipodissolve procedure, your doctor injects the chemical into the fat layers.   The injection is relatively painless, with no need for anesthesia but at NewSkin Laser Center we do apply topical numbing cream to decrease pain or needle phobia and  improve satisfaction. The medication produces a chemical reaction to dissolve localized areas of fat and a burning sensation will be noted.   The burning sensation depends on the amount or volume of the medication injected.    Pain usually lasts for about 24 hours and it will subside dramatically from there on.   Meanwhile, swelling is the injected areas can be significant for up to one week.   At NewSkin Laser Center, we recommend smaller amount to be injected to decrease the discomfort and swelling.  Typically, benefits are seen within four weeks of the treatment. Several treatments, four to six weeks apart, are often required to produce the maximum result. There is no downtime after lipodissolve.

It has been extremely safe to have the injection as the fat dissolved tend to disappear.  Several theories exist to explain where the fat goes.  The amount of fat dissolved is so minuscule that it has not caused any problems thus far.   The body dissolves and gets rid of the fat internally.

Researches have conducted studies with a standardized PC/DC cocktail in one half of their abdomen during up to four sessions that were spaced eight weeks apart. After 4 sessions, MRI was used to measure the fat thickness in the areas injected. Dramatic differences were noted not just on MRI but also visibly by the patients treated.   All of the participants requested the other side of the abdomen to be treated as well.  Lipodissolve side effects included swelling, redness, bruising and some pain, but there were no serious side effects seen in this study. The next step is to follow participants for longer periods of time, and possibly study this treatment among larger groups of people.

Not everyone is considered a candidate for Lipodissolve. It should not be used in pregnant women, nursing mothers, obese individuals or people with diabetes, autoimmune diseases, vascular (blood vessel) complications or infections of any kind.

Questions to Ask Your Doctor About Lipodissolve

Make sure that your doctor is familiar with Lipodissolve and or other methods of dissolving fat.
At NewSkin Laser Center, we offer Kybella and Lipodissolve solution to treat small areas and stubborn fat.   We have great online reviews as well as yelp reviews.

Ask about the ingredients in the medication for your lipodissolve procedure?
Ask the doctor to estimate the number of treatments needed to achieve results?
If you are considering lipodissolve, your next step is a consultation with one of our doctors at NewSkin Laser Center.  We are very familiar with lipodissolve treatments and alternative spot reduction treatments.   We also offer Warm Sculpting called Sculpsure which usually needs about two treatments for small area fat dissolving.   Discussion with your doctor and the solution or treatment recommended is the best first step.  If the doctor suggests an alternative treatment such as liposuction, be sure to ask about all aspects of the procedure, including liposuction risks and liposuction recovery.  At NewSkin Laser Center we offer no general anesthesia liposuction with sculpting and fat transfer.    Read more about our liposuction procedure by clicking here.
